SOME (So Others Might Eat) exists to help the poor and homeless in Washington, DC

  • SOME's Dining Rooms for the Homeless has been serving the District’s neediest individuals since 1970.
  • Breakfast and lunch are served each day to all who come to SOME.
  • The Dining Room for Women and Children was established in response to the growing number of homeless women and children.
  • Often times, the dining rooms are a gateway for the homeless to access other necessary services SOME provides.
  • The Clothing and Shower Rooms offer homeless men and women access to hot showers, free clothing, and restroom facilities
  • The Medical Clinic offers a full range of services including primary care, lab work and treatment for diabetics.
  • The Dental Clinic provides both emergency and comprehensive oral care to patients.
  • Our part-time ophthalmologist treats those suffering from diabetes, glaucoma, AIDS, injuries, and conducts general exams
  • Jordan House is an emergency placement for individuals who are experiencing a mental health crisis.
  • SOME's addiction treatment program empowers homeless men and women to recover their sobriety and self respect.
  • 83% of clients successfully completed the program; nearly double the national rate for residential treatment programs.
  • SOME’s Center for Employment Training is a nationally accredited program that prepares students for living wage career
  • Building Maintenance Service Technician: students learn carpentry, electrical engineering, plumbing, HVAC, and safety.
  • Business & Customer Relations Associate: students learn business fundamentals, customer service, and computer skills.
  • Isaiah House is a drop-in day socialization program for homeless adults with chronic mental illness.
  • SOME has provided affordable, safe housing with supportive services for the poor and homeless for 22 years.
  • Ninety-four percent of people who live in SOME's supportive-service housing maintain their health, sobriety and income.
  • SOME offers safe and dignified affordable apartments for extremely poor and homeless families in the District.
  • Children living at Independence Place attend SOME Place for Kids, an after-school tutoring and enrichment program.
  • More than 96% percent of the families maintained their health, sobriety and income.
  • SOME's Senior Center is a day center where seniors come together for activities, case management, and companionship.
  • Kuehner House is SOME's newest residence designed specifically for the needs of Senior Citizens.
  • Kuehner Place for Abused and Neglected Elderly offers a safe haven for senior citizens who have been exploited.
  • Senior Summer Camp is a week-long retreat in West Virginia for senior citizens who are unable to afford a vacation.

SOME (So Others Might Eat) is an interfaith, community-based organization that exists to help the poor and homeless of our nation's capital. We meet the immediate daily needs of the people we serve with food, clothing, and health care. We help break the cycle of homelessness by offering services, such as affordable housing, job training, addiction treatment, and counseling, to the poor, the elderly and individuals with mental illness. Each day, SOME is restoring hope and dignity one person at a time. We invite you to join us.So Others Might Eat is the only interfaith, community-based organization in the District of Columbia that offers a comprehensive, holistic approach to caring for the homeless and extremely poor citizens of our city.
