Junior Achievement of Greater Washington empowers young people to own their economic success.

What does Junior Achievement do?
Junior Achievement empowers young people to own their economic success. Our programs teach K-12 students in Greater Washington crucial lessons about financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship: we educate youth about basic financial management and responsibility, prepare them to enter the workforce, and train them to become the next generation of business and non-profit leaders.

Why is Junior Achievement the right charity to donate to?
In these troubled economic times, it is clearer than ever that all members of society need to understand the basics of financial literacy in order to become prosperous and productive citizens. Junior Achievement has believed this since its founding in 1919, and currently teaches more than 9 million students a year about financial literacy. Junior Achievement will not simply be at the forefront of the recovery from the current economic crisis; we are the forefront of the recovery.

Why should you donate now?
The current financial crisis demonstrates that there is a vital and immediate need for financial literacy education. Though Junior Achievement reaches over 9 million students each year across the globe and over 47,000 students each year in Greater Washington, there are still countless K-12 students who grow up without the education that they both need and deserve to succeed in a global economy. Your donation will help rectify this. Your donation matters.

What does your donation accomplish?
Your immediate donation will help us complete the following major projects and initiatives in the 2011-2012 academic year:

  • Reach over 52,000 K-12 students with financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship programs at no cost to students or parents.
  • Operate an experiential financial literacy learning center, Junior Achievement Finance Park, in Fairfax, VA, designed to serve 15,000 8th graders each year.
  • Prepare up to 12,000 District of Columbia Public School students for summer work.
  • Expand our partnership with Montgomery County Public Schools to provide programs for over 18,000 students at 132 elementary, middle, and high schools.
