THE IVY COMMUNITY CHARITIES OF PRINCE GEORGES COUNTY INC

Jessica lives in an affordable apartment complex in Landover, MD with her brother and mother. Her father is in prison and her mom suffered from alcohol dependency. Her brother was a member of our reading enrichment program for elementary school students. Jessica learned about our program for teens from her brother and asked her mom about attending. Because her mom did not drive, members of our organization arranged for her transportation to the mentoring workshops. When Jessica became a senior in high school, she learned about our Cotillion fundraising program. Recognizing that she did not have the funds to participate on her own, the members of Charities rallied around Jessica and her family to purchase her dress and all of the necessary accessories. On the night of the Cotillion, Jessica exclaimed that she wanted to be married in the same dress because she felt like a princess. During the same year, Jessica was one of 40 students awarded a college scholarship from our organization. Two years later, she is attending college and working. Her mom still cries when she sees us and continues to thank us for supporting her family through difficult times and for turning her daughter's dream into a reality.
