Connecting communities to healthy food in the nation's capital.

Through education and access, DC Greens work to ensure that all residents of the District have a deeper connection to the sources of their food and can afford fresh, local fruit and vegetables. We connect communities - not only to healthy food, but also to each other - so that we can work collectively towards a more just food system and a healthier relationship to our food.

-We build strong school garden programs by providing professional development for teachers in every Ward of the city;

- We manage a farmers' market incentive program at four D.C. farmers' markets, enabling low-income residents to purchase healthy, local foods by offering "bonus bucks" to food stamp and WIC recipients.

- We launched a Fruit and Vegetable Prescription Program in D.C., together with Upper Cardozo Unity Clinic, Columbia Heights Community Marketplace, and Wholesome Wave.

- We strengthen the local farm economy, and work to improve both individual and community health by bringing healthy foods to urban populations.

    If everyone planted a garden in their back yard/neighborhood garden, just think of all the diesel, roads, congestion and time each fresh tomato saves. The key to a sustainable future lies in something so small and so simple....a seed.

    Terrific missions; most dedicated founders who personnify the meaning of "think globally, act locally;" its market has great products and friendly vendors and has become a gathering place for the communities it serves; and its initial 4000 square foot school garden is amazing. This is a great charity!
